History of Tracksuits

Today in this blog post I want to talk about the history of tracksuits. The tracksuit as we all know it comes in all different styles from the Adidas tracksuit, velour tracksuit, and so on. The tracksuits that we wear has some history behind it that I would love to share with you guys. I hope you enjoy it!

So, these tracksuits that we wear all started in the 60s, which combined of synthetic nylon fabrics this is what shaped these tracksuits. To be exact Adidas started out with tracksuits as their first piece of apparel. A German soccer player name Franz Beckenbauer in 1967 was wearing an Adidas tracksuit and from that point on in the 70s tracksuits started to get into fashion. In the 70s tracksuits started to become a staple that was non-athletic and around the 70s jogging became very popular and tracksuits were what people were going for. Around that time the tracksuits were getting popular they were something you can also wear in the comfort of your home. Around this time disco music was on a rise which the tracksuits had a great blend in.

Going on around the 80s that is when fitness starts to get a jump. Tracksuits were starting to become created with newer fabrics that made the tracksuits more comfortable to wear. The fabrics that were being used to make these tracksuits more comfortable is Gore-Tex and Sympatex. Around the time break dancing was getting popular tracksuits were paving their way. Tracksuits had to be breathable and these tracksuits had some of the dopest colors that mashed up. In the beginning of the 80s and going into the 90s tracksuits were also huge within Europeans. Tournaments in Italy and France that had supporters within their clubs they would tracksuits from brands like Fila. If any club had nice tracksuits on that means that those certain clubs were doing very well.

In the 90s the tracksuits were becoming popular and there was this wave that if you had a tracksuit on you were getting paid very well. When it comes to this saying this was mostly within the hip hop industry that a nice tracksuit was a meaning of getting money. Next, we have tracksuits that started to emerge in the 2000s and this is when Juicy Couture and Baby Phat came about. Both of these brands were very big within that time women really loved those sweatsuits. Especially that velour look it was just very popular and comfortable and still paving the way today as we speak. Once the 2000s was at an end tracksuits became not so popular within fashion but, with today’s tracksuits we still see some really creative ones. We still have tracksuits that pay homage to the tracksuits back in the day.
