Hi guys today in this post I am going to be talking about the history of nail art. I know a lot of us love keeping our nails nice and manicured even when it comes to acrylics. So, I wanted to give a brief history on the nail art we enjoy wearing. I hope you all like it!
So, let’s start about 4,000 years ago in Southern Babylonia manicures were taking place which the manicure instruments were found in Egypt’s royal tombs. What’s crazy is the Roman’s would paint their nails with a mixture of sheep fat & blood. Women in biblical times would dye their hair but they also would paint their hands & feet with henna juice which still happens today in the Middle Eastern. Chinese people would also use nail polish made from different things such as egg whites and Arabic gum. When it comes to the Western Hemisphere colored nail polish was highly uncommon but once the twentieth century it was common.
In the Hollywood film industry they tired to popularize wearing nail polish more in the West. In the 1920s the actresses flaunted their nails which symbolized modernity and looked very exotic. The first nails that were tinted and produced in shades of pink with the names “rose”, “coral”, and “natural”. Charles Revson the owner of Revelon the idea to develop a method to add opaque pigments and he made that available in the 1930s. In the last few decades there has been more innovations when it comes to nail art. In the 1980s we see different colors and styles even some that contain decorations built in. In 1995 Chanel decided to put a nail polish that was a deep black-red polish called “vamp”. This bottle was $15 but what Chanel did was create a space for other brands such as Urban Decay & Hard Candy to flourish in their business when It comes to creative nail art.
So, in today’s world nail art is highly popular among women and men. When it comes to nail art you can have so much fun with it and play around with it. The beautiful thing about nail art is how creative you can be with it and make your own designs come to life I think that is definitely the fun part about it.
